This is one of my favorite drills for beginning to learn poi transitions between timing and direction combinations! Stalls and pendulums are the bread and butter of poi transitions and this simple drill will help you begin to understand how to use them in this fashion to switch timing and direction. The key is to alternate which hand is doing the stall in the course of the drill to cycle through! Beginner poi transitions can be hard because you’re so focused on getting the trick rather than figuring out how to chain it together with others. It’s my hope that in the course of this poi lesson you’ll start to get a feel for how to spin poi in a way that will feel more organic and as though you’re in control of the prop.
