Musicality in poi spinning and dancing involves learning to hone in on a variety of elements in music and finding ways to accompany it with a variety of poi tricks and techniques. One can do this by zeroing in on the beat, melodies, dynamic shifts, and vocal cues in the music to guide the flow of the poi. In this video, I outline several tips for improving musicality in poi spinning, including using zero points to hit beat accents, creating poi movement phrases that follow the shape of the melody, ways the volume of poi tricks can be used to accentuate high notes or different sections of the song, and so many more!.
